Sunrise Goes Live at Flinders Medical Centre

14 September 2021 – Allscripts’ Sunrise has gone live at the Flinders Medical Centre, the second largest hospital and health facility in South Australia after the Royal Adelaide Hospital. This is part of a multi-stage rollout at Flinders that began with the replacement of the previous patient administration system in March, followed by the hospital’s outpatient areas in the second phase. This third phase implemented in July enables clinical activation across the entire hospital including inpatient areas, the Emergency Department and remaining outpatient areas. The final stage that is to be implemented will see the activation of maternity and neonatal areas in the Women’s and Children’s division of the hospital.

Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) provides an extensive range of medical services for communities in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide, approximately 15 kilometres south of the city. The hospital is co-located with the Flinders University School of Medicine and Flinders Private Hospital, which supports the public hospital through the provision of contracted services, presenting some unique challenges for configuration and workflows in the implementation planning process.

Allscripts’ general manager for Australia and New Zealand, Todd Haebich, said that steady progress is being made in the delivery of SA Health’s goal – to establish a connected community of health across the state supported by a contemporary electronic medical record.

“The roll out at Flinders Medical Centre is a significant step forward in the ambitious rollout of a statewide integrated PAS and EMR in South Australia and particularly meaningful considering how large and busy the hospital and associated sites are, combined with the additional pressures of the Covid pandemic,” Mr Haebich said.

“Now the same system is in use across four South Australian Local Health Networks in metropolitan and regional areas, South Australians will benefit from improved consistency in administrative and clinical processes as they move between sites.”

FMC is regarded as one of Australia’s finest public teaching hospitals and a centre for research excellence. More than 5,000 skilled staff work at FMC and it is one of two major trauma centres in the state with around-the-clock emergency retrieval service bringing patients to the hospital by road or helicopter.

In November 2019, Sunrise went live in the Mt Gambier Hospital in regional South Australia.

Allscripts to deliver electronic chemotherapy prescribing solution to SA Health

20 August 2021 – Allscripts has won a competitive tender to deliver an electronic chemotherapy prescribing solution to SA Health. The solution, which will be integrated with SA Health’s Sunrise EMR, will be rolled out to more than 20 hospitals and facilities across SA Health sites that offer cancer treatment services across South Australia.

The solution being implemented by Allscripts is the cloud-based iQemo solution by UK company iQHealthTech. iQemo is a specialist platform which provides a complete end-to-end chemotherapy prescribing solution that includes predefined regimens, prescribing, scheduling, dispensing, through to chemotherapy administration and reporting.

iQemo was designed and perfected with practicing oncologists and is used by several NHS Trusts and private healthcare groups in the UK, including those where Allscripts SunriseTM is the EMR platform of choice. SA Health will be able to access iQemo within Sunrise EMR enabling a more complete patient record.

SA Health partners with Allscripts Australia to deliver its state-based Sunrise EMR and PAS. Sunrise is deployed in many of the state’s public hospitals and healthcare facilities including its flagship Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Noarlunga Health Service, Mt Gambier and Districts Health Service and many others as part of a statewide rollout to create a connected community of health in the state of South Australia.

Todd Haebich, General Manager for Allscripts ANZ said that iQemo drastically reduces the risk of dosing errors and meets SA Health’s need for coordinated care of cancer patients.

“The combination of our relationship with iQHealthTech, and the power and capability of Microsoft Azure, allows us to deliver an exceptional SaaS product to SA Health that has been tried and tested in the UK and that enhances both efficiency and patient safety associated with the prescribing and administration of chemotherapy,” explained Mr. Haebich.

“It provides many features that improve patient safety such as comprehensive chemotherapy regimen management, automatic dose calculations, allergy & sensitivity alerting, decision support linked to pathology & toxicity, drug-to-drug interaction support and much more.”

SA Health ECPS Project Director, Paul Thomas, said that during the procurement process, suppliers had to demonstrate how they would deliver the desired clinical outcomes, with the evaluation led by the doctors, nurses and pharmacists who treat cancer patients and the technical teams who will be part of the planning and design stage.

“The Evaluation Team recognised the importance of a supplier with the right skill set in Australia when selecting a UK-based system,” he said.

“Local on-the-ground support is crucial to the implementation and working with clinical and technical experts in SA Health.”

“Allscripts has a detailed understanding of SA Health’s clinical, business and technical environment and will deliver the iQemo solution in partnership with iQemo experts working alongside them from the UK. This approach provides SA Health with the confidence that a safe and timely delivery of the iQemo solution will be achieved.”

iQemo reduces the risk of error by providing a clear, easy to read electronic drug administration chart with all the drugs displayed in the correct order based on the treatment protocol.

Allscripts rebrands its gem of a Digital Health Record

7 July 2021 – Allscripts has announced a rebrand and relaunch of its BOSSnet Digital Health Record (DHR) to Allscripts Opal which is now available with a suite of new feature enhancements in the form of Allscripts Opal 21.2.

BOSSnet, initially developed as a blood ordering software system (BOSS) was the flagship DHR platform of Adelaide company Core Medical Solutions, which was acquired by Allscripts in 2016. As a digital health record, it is operational in over 100 sites in Australia whilst it is also deployed as a document management solution as part of the Sunrise™ platform of health in Australia and the United Kingdom. It is also currently being deployed in the US, Canada, Singapore and the Philippines but as General Manager for Allscripts Australia and New Zealand Todd Haebich explains, the company felt the time was right to rebadge BOSSnet and in doing so, renew its commitment to promote the software to a global market.

“From a branding perspective, our main objective is to ensure that it has a cohesive identity within the Allscripts portfolio – an easily recognisable name that is unambiguous across cultures whilst at the same time pays homage to Australia as the country of its origin.”

“Australian opals account for 95% of the world’s supply and are therefore synonymous with Australia. Likewise, this platform has undergone continuous development and digital maturation as part of the Allscripts stable and is now a polished product that can be introduced to hospitals and healthcare systems worldwide with renewed confidence,” added Mr. Haebich.

Allscripts Opal 21.2, to be released on June 30, will feature a suite of feature enhancements offering users an enhanced user experience, up-to-date platform support, improved maintainability as well as performance and security improvements. Features include:

  1. Scanning workflow enhancements – new capabilities to streamline batch and point-of care scanning workflows improving throughput and productivity of end-users. Release and approve tools have been integrated into the process to provide better visibility of completion of tasks throughout the process. Images can also be uploaded with ease directly into the solution.
  2. eForms functionality enhancements – facilitates the ease of documentation by presenting needed information from other areas of the chart within the clinical eForms and workflows, providing quick buttons to complete assessment and treatment plans, leading to a reduction in charting time.
  3. New Mobile App – leverages mobile device capabilities to easily upload multi-media files enabling users to “scan on the go”, completing document capture from any iOS device.

Other enhancements include a Watchlist support in DHR, which allows personal and public watchlists to be created and managed in Allscripts Opal DHR, bringing functionality currently available in Results Review to the DHR.

Allscripts Opal also offers Upgraded platform support in Windows 2019, SQL Server 2019, .NET Framework 4.8, TLS 1.2 Support and Chromium-based browsers improving reliability maintainability, security and performance.

Allscripts SunriseTM goes live across Gippsland EDs

MELBOURNEJuly 2021 – Phase 3 of the Gippsland Health Alliance’s (GHA) EMR Community Health activation has gone live with the Sunrise Emergency Care module (within the Allscripts SunriseTM EMR platform of health) having been successfully extended to the emergency department facilities of the Central Gippsland Health Service, Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (servicing east Gippsland), West Gippsland Healthcare Group and Bass Coast Health.
Todd Haebich, General Manager of Allscripts Australia and New Zealand said that GHA deserves great credit for their vision and achievement, especially considering the complexities and challenges brought about by COVID-19.

“GHA has firmly established itself as one of the pioneers of connected communities of health in Australia and we are enthusiastic about the success that we help them achieve in rolling out SunriseTM across a very sizeable geography and in four EDs simultaneously,” explained Mr. Haebich.

“Gippsland residents can be proud of what GHA has accomplished and it inspires great confidence in the next phase of the rollout which will see SunriseTM go live across inpatient services at the four hospitals,” added Mr. Haebich.

Jon Millar, Chief Information Officer of the Gippsland Health Alliance said that access to the Sunrise Emergency Care module gives ED clinicians an information edge in the dynamic environment of an emergency department.

“Introducing a world-class EMR into our emergency departments supercharges the traditional tracking board by giving clinicians a powerful and intuitive interface which allows them to access vital patient information in only a few clicks,” explained Mr. Millar.

“Every second counts in an Emergency Department so it’s vital the local teams are able to access patient information quickly. All of our staff have been trained and clinician feedback has been very positive,” Mr Millar said.

In October 2020, Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) completed the rollout of its Sunrise EMR platform at the Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH). The EMR went live in the Latrobe 30-bed ED in April 2019 and is fully functional across inpatient services at LRH and Community Mental Health services across the region. LRH is Gippsland’s specialist referral and trauma centre, located 150km east of Melbourne, and is one of the region’s largest employers with more than 2,100 staff. It is a purpose-built 300-plus-bed teaching hospital caring for a population of more than 260,000 people.

Latrobe is the health IT company’s first implementation of its EMR solution in Victoria and is also one of the first EMRs in Australia to use Microsoft Azure. The cost efficiency, cyber security, infrastructure flexibility and resilience associated with cloud-based systems was a driving force behind the decision by other members of the alliance to extend the Sunrise EMR platform across Gippsland.

The Gippsland Health Alliance (GHA) is a consortium of publicly funded health services in the Gippsland region of Victoria, east of Melbourne, covering some 41,556 square kilometres (16,045 sq mi). Allscripts won the competitive tender to deliver an EMR solution to the Gippsland Health Alliance in late 2017 and Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) was selected as the first site in the Alliance to implement the Sunrise EMR clinical suite.

Allscripts SunriseTM to be extended across Gippsland

MELBOURNE21 January 2021 – The Gippsland Health Alliance (GHA) has announced plans for the expansion of its Allscripts SunriseTM electronic medical record (EMR) across the Victorian region of Gippsland. Phase 3 of GHA’s EMR Community Health project will see the implementation of the Sunrise Emergency Care module (within the Sunrise EMR platform of health) at the emergency department facilities of the Central Gippsland Health Service, Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (servicing east Gippsland), West Gippsland Healthcare Group and Bass Coast Health, which covers the southern part of the region. Sunrise will then be rolled out across inpatient services at all four hospitals.

In October this year, Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) completed the rollout of its Sunrise EMR platform at the Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH). The EMR went live in the Latrobe 30-bed ED in April 2019 and is now fully functional across inpatient services at LRH and Community Mental Health services across the region.

The cost efficiency, flexibility and resilience associated with cloud-based systems was a driving force behind the decision by other members of the alliance to extend the Sunrise EMR platform across Gippsland.

Todd Haebich, General Manager of Allscripts Australia said that the extension of Sunrise reflects international best practice by enabling a continuum of care across the region of Gippsland.

“This is the first step towards establishing a connected health community across a large and well-populated area and we are delighted to be supporting the Gippsland Health Alliance’s vision,” explained Mr. Haebich.

“When clinicians have information on a patient’s health status and history they can make more informed decisions and provide a higher quality of care whilst also optimising scarce resources.”

Jon Millar, Chief Information Officer of the Gippsland Health Alliance said that phase 3 of the EMR Community Health project will extend the proven benefits of an EMR to the entire Gippsland region.

“This is about improving the quality of health service across a much bigger footprint in the Gippsland region and helps us deliver on our commitment to empower clinicians to deliver a world-class service,” explained Mr. Millar.
